1. Definition
A tape recorder is portable electronic gadget to record, reproduce, erase & re-record sound on a magnetic tape.

2. PURPOSES
To record sound.
To prepare listening lectures.
To improve listening power.
To reproduce recorded voice.

3.WORKING OF TAPE RECORDER
It can be used without much fuss by anybody by operating the following buttons.
Buttons attached to the recorder are as stop, play, wind, rewind, record and pause & eject.
In this there are some functional control in a tape recorder such as volume & tone of loudness.
Tape counter which is set to 0 to records up to a count 999.
Microphone is a device convert sound into electrical signal and picks up sound signal from 20 hertz to 20 k hertz.

4. STEPS TO  USE TAPE RECORDER
Choose a room with proper acoustics and heavily curtained room.
Place the tape recorder on a steady tape and insert in the cassette & check the working, before recording anything.
It place 25 to 30 cm. away from the person whose voice is recorded.
Press the record button & speak into the microphone.
After testing & setting recorder, rewind the cassette completely & stop before actual recording
Record the actual material.
After recording is over rewind & play the tape recorder for editing, auditing & evaluation.

5. DO’S FOR RECORDING
The teacher must practice to use the device.
The teacher prepares tape recorded material & catalogue.
It can be recorded from other sources as TV, radio & performance of programs.
It must be use for speech training & corrective feedback.
It must be use for recording interview, talks & discussion of various experts.

6. ADVANTAGES OF  TAPE RECORDER
Commonly available aids
Economical to use.
Easy to operate
A valuable recording can be stored.
It provides flexibility for the teacher to edit & evaluate.
On the spot can be recorded.
It can be use for improving spoken language.

7. LIMITATIONS OF TAPE RECORDER
There is no personal contact with the speaker.
It does not cater individual differences.
Listening for a long time generally distract.
It encourages passive learning.
It is costly & so all people cannot afford.
It cannot provide laboratory experiences.
