In November 2007 Google announced Android, a Java/Linux-based mobile phone operating system.
Google defines Android as a "software stack" for mobile phones.

3.Google formed a group of hardware, software, and telecommunication companies called the Open Handset Alliance with the goal of contributing to Android development.
Major mobile phone companies have joined the Open Handset Alliance to promote the development of Android.
4.Anyone can download the SDK (software development kit) and write applications for Android phones. These apps can be downloaded free of cost from the Android Market. If the app costs money, you pay for it using Google Checkout.
The Android Market, however, is far more open and easy to access for developers.
The apps range from social games to more business-orientated options and this range will continue to increase in the coming months.
